![]() Mentor in general is high-end, and expensive, stuff. If you are doing any mutli-GHz designs you kinda need to have it. I think that HyperLynx is the gold standard for board level simulator, so it makes the license really expensive. The real power of PADS is that it dovetails into HyperLynx easily. The latest versions of PADS has a completely different schematic capture front end (DxDesigner) from 9.5, but the layout part is very similar looking to 9.5 with some upgrades. I don't think they have a low-end product, which is why most hobby/makers have never used them. I used to do military/aerospace electronics and used Mentor exclusively back then. Mentor has a even higher end product (Xpedition) for big fortune500 types. mentor graphics pads, mentor graphics pads viewer, mentor graphics pads 9.5 free download, mentor graphics pads price, mentor graphics pads tutorial. Price wise, PADS licenses are comparable with full Altium Designer (approaching $10k USD with additional 10% yearly service agreement). Mentor is trying to position it as a high-middle end CAD product. PADS Professional is offering complete integrated platform for PCB design based on proven, best in class Xpedition and HyperLynx technology. The offer includes perpetual software license, first year support and free training. PADS is still around but has been upgraded a lot since 9.5. PADS Professional is a superior PCB Design solution which everybody can afford for un unbeatable price. You can move very quickly in PADS and I feel like it has a lot less of the click-fest that Altium has. I used to use PADS a lot in previous jobs and loved it.
